Last week, when I was reflecting with a client, a thought emerged. Why do we consider ourselves indispensable? Though we vehemently disagree that we are not thinking so, our actions and expectations indicate a contrary scenario. How do we expect to be a better leader if we do not appreciate this simple truth in realistic terms: "We are all fillable and need not be perfect, and we could be indispensable". I wrote this poem based on this reflection.
Do you know the Person sitting next to you?
Yes, I know
The name and the place of stay
The colour of eyes and complexion
May know the height and weight
May also know this Person's
siblings, spouse, and children
But should I know the Person sitting next to me?
He could be a prisoner of
self-victimisation?
Unknown fears, anxieties, and strain-
Does not enjoy the work done
– day in and out.
Finding it difficult to be a good friend to others
And love self and others.
The Person sitting next to you is
undecided, disorganised
Chaos and confusion become intense
He could be writhing in pain inside.
Would you like to know the Person sitting next to you?
The Person sitting next to you has
a right to be a person.
A right to choose and decide,
A right to be understood
To be understood – how desperately
We all want it?
Do you know the Person sitting next to you?
The Person sitting next to you is different
Has a potential which is still to be unleashed
There are things this Person can do better.
He has a right and a choice to be active and
He is an inexhaustible source of energy.
Let the energy be awakened to its full potential
The blockages, the limiting beliefs, get unblocked
These blockages are struggling,
within, to get released –
The strain, anxiety, pain, negativity
It needs to be removed to create space
The space of knowing self –
The ability to express gratitude for what the Person is.
Do you want to know the Person sitting next to you?
The Person sitting next to you,
A unique world of experience.
Within the self, there is a world
Premiere of unique experiences going on.
Experiences which no other person
Has ever had or will ever have.
Thus, the Person sitting next to you
Is a cluster of memories of the
Past, and expectations of the future.
The Person sitting next to you is a whole colony of persons,
Meeting and chatting– within
-during the entire life.
Something of these people has
entered this Person forever.
The Person sitting next to you is a community.
Inside lives the father and mother of this Person,
The boys and girls with whom this Person played most,
The people with whom this Person went to school,
All the live things of this world
that came and interacted with the Person.
They are still deep within.
The Person sitting next to you is
the greatest miracle you will ever meet.
The Person sitting next to you is sacred.
With Gratitude.
